Introduction to Self-Compassion: 4-Week Course - Stirling

  • The Yoga Tree 25B Stirling Arcade, King Street Stirling, FK8 1AX (map)

Why practice self-compassion - isn't it selfish? As Ruby Wax points out: "if we don't learn to be compassionate to ourselves first, we can't feel it for anyone else". It may seem selfish to focus on ourselves, but if we are more able to weather difficult times, we are more able to help others during theirs. How often do we find ourselves emotionally depleted? Unable to care for ourselves because we spend so much time trying to care for others? Does this do anyone any good?

This 4-week mindfulness course will focus on how we can increase our compassion to ourselves - noting that if we are more self-compassionate, this will affect our relationships and those around us in a positive way. This is an introductory course around the area of compassion. A variety of different practices are offered to help us increase our compassion for ourselves. We will also look at a variety of models to help us understand why we get trapped into responses to difficulties in life that are unhelpful, affecting both ourselves and those around us. Once we learn our automatic unhelpful responses, we can start to make considered changes.

The course costs £50. Unfortunately, sessions can not be attended on a drop-in basis, as the course builds from week to week. Concessions and subsidised places available - please contact me on susie@pauseandbreathe.co.uk to discuss further - you can also book directly through me to avoid the booking fee - email me to arrange.

The four weeks will be themed as follows:
Week 1: What is compassion and why do we need it?
Week 2: Looking at our emotional regulation systems - why we respond the way we do
Week 3: Response to Threat: Unlearning the Automatic
Week 4: Taking in the Good

The session runs from 6-7.30pm for four consecutive weeks. There willl be handouts for all the sessions, sent via email after each session. Yoga mats and meditation cushions are provided. You may wish to bring a blanket for additional comfort.
