Managing Change

Welcome to March, and the introduction of our new topic – “Managing Change”.

This seems to fit well with where we are just now. As a business, we are changing to take on new premises. It’ll be something new for us to have a physical place to work from, and the transition is one we’re looking forward to, yet it is also scary.

Our new premises - you can see that this needs a lot of work! Changes to be made…

Definition of Change

“To make or become different” is the definition that I keep coming across for change. I think when I read this, it seems less overwhelming than change often feels. Things become different all the time – in every moment, things are changing. It’s one of the key teachings of Buddhism – impermanence – and one that I come back to again and again. Yet at times, we get frustrated that things aren’t changing quickly enough. Or perhaps they’re changing too quickly! We are never satisfied.

I love this calligraphy by Thich Nhat Hanh, which reminds us about impermanence

How to Manage Change

We’ll be focusing this month on how to accept, and even celebrate change more readily. When we learn to drop our resistance, our whole relationship with change can adjust. When viewed with a different mindset, change can be seen as a way for us to grow and learn. Nature can help us tune into impermanence with acceptance – after all, nature doesn’t resist the changing of the seasons. Perhaps we can learn from this and accept that we have our own internal seasons too.

You’ll find lots of events in March celebrating this theme of change. We’ll be picking it up in our mindful meditation sessions. We also have the following online events planned – click below for more information.

Hope to see you at something this month.

With a smile,

Susie
