SMART Self-Defence Course for Women - Bonnybridge

  • The Place to Pause & Breathe 18 High Street Bonnybridge, Scotland, FK4 1DA United Kingdom (map)

This is a 6-week Self-Defence course for women: feel safer whilst at walking, learn to walk with confidence, feel less vulnerable and more empowered. Learn practical skills to stay safe.

Smart Self-Defence Overview:

Smart self-defence integrates traditional techniques with modern technology and situational awareness to enhance personal safety. It focuses not only on physical responses but also on prevention and early detection of potential threats.

Core Principles:

Smart self-defence combines practical martial arts movements with strategic awareness to minimize risk and ensure effective self-protection. The approach emphasizes simple, realistic techniques that are adaptable to everyday situations.

Key Elements:

  • Striking techniques: Punching, kicking, kneeing, and elbowing used for creating distance or halting an attack.

  • Evasive movement: Slipping, leaning, and quick footwork to avoid strikes while moving into a more advantageous position.

  • Strategic awareness: Observing surroundings, identifying exits, and maintaining a calm mindset to prevent escalation.

Fighting Ranges:

Different techniques are suited to specific combat distances:

  • Striking Range: Medium distance where punches, kicks, elbows, and knees are most effective.

  • Clinch or Grappling Range: Close-quarter distance for holds, throws, and grapples.

  • Ground Fighting: Involves defence and control when combat moves to the ground.
