Come along and enjoy some relaxed Scandi style Christmas crafting. Using recycled textiles and inspired by Nordic folk art, you will create a festive lovebird wall hanging for your home or as a handmade gift for someone special.
Design and make your own textile wall hanging with the folksy style love birds are at the centre, surrounded by Scandi style geometric patterns and winter motifs. Using simple cutting, pressing and sticking techniques, the wall hanging will be finished off with beads, buttons and textile accessories.
This workshop will focus on:
• Scandinavian Folk Art Design Layouts (central symmetry, stylised nature motifs, mirroring and bold color blocking)
• Textile Techniques using a variety of recycled textiles, including cotton, wool blanket and felt, exploring different techniques to attach them including layering, sticking and hanging
• Pattern Transfer using stencils/images to trace shapes (curved leaf sprigs and holly shapes) onto fabric incorporating iron-on backing to give more structure to the main motifs
• Textile Cutting using fabric scissors ensuring clean edges
• Centerline Alignment by marking a center line with tape on the background cloth and arranging the pieces symmetrically
• Finished Layout including lightly glueing the geometric borders and various cutouts onto the background fabric, adding red button accessories at the end
• Finishing Off by folding the fabric over a stick or piece of wood to create a tube, carefully glueing down to secure. Finally, adding some cord and beads to hang the final piece.
Take some time for yourself, do some fun eco crafting and be part of the Women's Creative Collective at Pause and Breathe.
We have received funding from the Kelvin Valley and Falkirk CLLD Fund to hold a series of creative workshops for women. Themes of the workshops include recycling (and upcycling), reducing waste and promoting circular economy principles.
This session will be held on Wednesday 25th November 10.30am-12.30pm. The session is free, as it's funded - but please do come along if you book a space, as spaces are limited. Hot drinks and biscuits are provided.
The sessions will be held by Caroline Muirhead, a local artist.
