In today’s unpredictable world, confidence and awareness are your most valuable assets. This session moves beyond traditional martial arts, focusing instead on Smart Self-Defence—a disciplined approach designed for real-world application.
This session is structured to empower you to stay safe, stay calm, and move with purpose.
Our session covers three critical pillars:
Mindset & Awareness: Develop the ability to accurately read your environment and trust your intuition to identify risks before they escalate.
De-escalation: Master the art of setting verbal boundaries and using body language to diffuse conflict, ensuring you can manage difficult situations safely.
Practical Response: Learn high-impact, simple techniques designed for real-world scenarios.
We focus on effective solutions rather than complex choreography, training you to use both your body and the everyday items already in your possession as defensive tools. Our training blends years of martial arts expertise with a rigorous, safety-first philosophy. We are committed to providing you with the skills to remain composed and capable under pressure.
Phil from Kuroyaki Ryu and Pause & Breathe will be the facilitator for this session.
This session is being held on Friday 19th June 10-11.30am, in The Place to Pause & Breathe, Bonnybridge. This includes a break for a hot drink, biscuits and a chat.
These sessions are free, as they have been funded by Falkirk Communities Mental Health & Wellbeing. They are designed to support participant's overall health and wellbeing, increasing community connections and reducing loneliness. Although they are free, please only book in if you are definitely attending as numbers are limited. With over 50 years of dedicated practice and a passion for developing both mind and body, Phil Blackburn is a committed martial arts instructor specialising in Kuroyaki Ryu Ju Jitsu and Kempo Karate.
Phil’s teaching philosophy is rooted in the belief that martial arts training provides more than just self-defence; it is a pathway to building confidence, resilience, discipline, and a strong sense of community. Phil brings a wealth of real-world experience to his practice, balancing his passion for the martial arts. This unique dual perspective—which emphasises precision, safety, and operational excellence—enables Phil to teach martial arts with a focus on practical, smart techniques and a disciplined, safety-conscious approach.
Whether working with children or adult students, Phil is dedicated to helping individuals discover their potential and grow stronger, safer, and more focused every day. Phil has won muliti awards for his martial arts training and dedication
