Wild Swim & Cake

  • The Place to Pause & Breathe 18 High Street BONNYBRIDGE, FK4 1DA United Kingdom (map)

Join us for a Wild Swim in Little Denny Reservoir, followed by whatever you fancy from the Courtyard Cafe in Denny.

Wild swimming offers a host of benefits, from increasing feelings of happiness and satisfaction to reducing anxiety and helping with inflammation. There's also a great sense of community that comes from swimming together, and it can help to build feelings of resilience.

Susie is volunteers with Mental Health Swims, and is able to help people find their confidence to get into the water. However, swimming is at your own risk. This is a free session - and is really an open invitation for anyone who would like to come along, rather than a guided session.

Susie will be leading the session, which is free to attend. Please bring along money if coming to the Courtyard cafe afterwards.

You'll need:

  • Swimming costume / whatever you want to swim in

  • Swim shoes or old trainers to swim in

  • Towel for afterwards (towelling ponchos are good too)

Some people like:

  • Something to stand on (I use an old bath mat, but a carrier bag works too)

  • Neoprene gloves (not necessary)

  • Float - very much recommended if you plan to swim - not as necessary if only dipping

  • Hat to wear in the water

  • Chair to sit on to help with getting changed

It's a good idea to wear something loose and easy to get on after swimming (jeans aren't great!).

By October the water is likely to be getting a little chilly again, but is unlikely to be extremely cold. It's a good time of year for people new to wild swimming, before the water becomes really cold again. However, it is still possible to get cold water shock so we'll talk a little on the morning about how to keep safe - bring some warm clothes with you, and you might like a flask of something hot with you too.

This session is being held on Friday 3rd October, meeting at The Place to Pause and Breathe at 9.45am. It may be possible to get a lift - please let us know if you need one. Click here to book in.

Meet Your Facilitator:

Susie is the co-founder of Pause & Breathe. She started wild swimming in April 2021 and immediately fell in love with it. She now has to get into the water at least once a week, otherwise she starts to feel irritable and tired. In 2024 she trained as a Mental Health Swim volunteer, holding Mental Health Swims once a month as she recognises how beneficial it can be for others to have the opportunity to get into the water in community with others.
